You get messages from Revenu Québec all year round, but especially during tax season. Would you be able to spot a fake one? Here are some tips and tricks to help you recognize the main traps set by scammers.

Ways to spot fraud

Unsure about something that looks like it’s from us? These are our rules for communicating with you.

Emails and text messages from us DO NOT have any details in them. You have to log in to My Account for individuals to view the actual message.

There are some things we NEVER do:

  • We never notify you of a payment, refund or money transfer by email or text.
  • We never mention the kind of change made to your file by email or text.
  • We never ask for personal information by email or text.
  • We never include confidential information in a phone message.
  • We never notify you by email or text that we didn’t receive your income tax return.
  • We never share your personal information with anyone without your permission.
  • We never send you online correspondence only without your prior consent.

Be smart

If you have doubts about an email, call or text, protect yourself by being smart:

  • Never click on links or open attachments.
  • Don’t reply to the sender.
  • Never give personal information.
  • Don’t reply to any message that requires immediate action.
